AVOCADO SHAKES

Serves:  2 Icy Shakes

Preparation Time:  10 Minutes

Cook Time:  No Cooking

The first time I tasted this deliciously smooth luxurious drink was in a Myanmar restaurant in Singapore called “Inle” Myanmar Restaurant near Peninsula Plaza.  My cautious self told me it was not something you did, drink avocado.  Rather we salt, chop and garlic it ‘up’ to dip my crispy tortilla chips washed down with a chilly salt rimmed margarita.  But I stand corrected!  It’s just fantastic! An interesting balance of the right amount of cool and sweet and creamy luxury to satisfy the sweet tooth, in a super healthy way!  Be for warned, this is not to be drunk if you’re planning on eating a lot of Myanmar food after, super filling!

1 ripe Avocado

Cut the avocado in half, seed and scope the fruit into a tall container.

4 tablespoons Carnation

Sweetened Condensed Milk

Add the condensed milk; you can add more if you like it sweeter.

2 cups crushed ice

Add ½ cup water

Add the crushed ice, 1 cup at a time, use a hand mixer to completely crush the ice into a smooth thick consistency, add the rest of the ice and repeat mixing.

Mix everything well together.

Origin:

It appears the Spanish were responsible for the discovery of the Avocado in the Americas where they are native from North Mexico to Central America.  It was later found in north-western South America, the south and as well as in the Andean regions as far as Peru and Venezuela, where it had been introduced after the Spanish conquest. It is primarily used in the Americas for savory dishes, such as Guacamole or in salads.  However, it is now readily cultivated in subtropical regions of the world, from the as far east as the Philippines to the western countries of Myanmar and south to Indonesia, where it is used as a fruit and in sweet shake like drinks.
